In honor of Pride Month, Disability:IN Minnesota will partner with Land O’ Lakes to host its June Member Meeting. Join us on Thursday, June 13 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM (CST) to discuss the connections between LGBTQ+ identities, disability, and mental health. This is a hybrid event, online and in-person at Land O’ Lakes, Inc., 4001 Lexington Ave N, Arden Hills, MN 55126.
LGBTQ+ Communities and Mental Health
Join a panel discussion presented by Land O’Lakes colleagues who live at the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity, mental health, and disability. This will be a valuable opportunity to gain insight and foster understanding of these intersecting identities. By participating, we can collectively learn and support one another within our community.
Discussion topics:
- Sexual orientation and gender identity: Sexual orientation refers to who you are romantically or physically attracted to, while gender identity is the internal sense of being a man, woman, both, or neither.
- High rates of mental health concerns: Bisexual and transgender communities have the highest rates of mental health concerns within the LGBTQ+ population.
- Resilience and adversity: Despite adversity, most LGBTQ+ individuals are incredibly resilient and thrive with support from families, communities, and peers.
- Complex experiences: Many LGBTQ+ people belong to multiple marginalized communities (e.g., BIPOC, people with disabilities, low socioeconomic status), leading to complex life experiences.
This virtual option will be held on Zoom. Registration is required to attend. Please register by June 11 at 5:00 PM.
Accessibility: Live captioning will be provided for this event. If you need accommodations to participate, please register at least 5 days prior to the event. If you plan to attend the event in person, wearing a high-quality mask is encouraged to keep participants safe from COVID-19. Contact info@DI-MN.org with questions.
